DC: What's a homestuck?

AN: homestuck is an interactive webcomic about a group of four kids who play a game together; created by andrew hussie. it began in 2009 and its original run concluded in 2013. multiple spin-offs have been created since - such as the epilogues, hiveswap, pesterquest and homestuck beyond canon

DC: Why does it look like that?

AN: the comic itself is set up to feel like a game, not only in its looks but also in the plethora of flash games in the comic itself. back in the early days of the comic, users were able to submit suggestions for what the characters would do, which hussie would then write and illustrate for the comic. multiple character names and usernames came from fans ideas, the most infamous of these being "dave strider" as he was originally going to be named "chad buskin".

DC: What are those grey aliens?

AN: the grey aliens with the candy colored horns are called "trolls". they come from a planet called alternia and have rainbow colored blood. they also have different forms of romance:

AN: matesprit - red, most similar to human romance

AN: moirailegence - pale, best friends who kiss eachother, queer platonic but without the platonic

AN: kismesisitude: black, mutual hated so back you need to fuck eachother

AN: auspicticism: ashen, a mediator of kismesisitude so the couple don't kill eachother

AN: im quite the fan of troll romance, and as an autistic person i find myself relating to these concepts quite a bit

DC: What's this weird chat client we're using?

AN: ah, pesterchum... my sweet angel...

AN: pesterchum is a fictional chat client the kids use in homestuck (the trolls have their own version called trollian)

AN: pesterchum is my wife

AN: something about it is so beautiful. maybe it's the nostalgia i have with the series, and the fond memories i have of me and my friends using the semi-official pesterchum back when i first got into homestuck. the sounds, the colors, the emoticons. it's all so foreign of a time of the web i didn't really get to experience yet so utterly comforting, like an old friend from a past life
